A local’s guide to the thrills and spills of East Anglia’s most popular seaside resort
6A Trafalgar Square, Great Yarmouth, NR30 2EL
TOP TIP: Pace yourself! It’s so tempting just to bung everything on your plate at
once and to stuff your face too quickly, but instead enjoy a number of smaller plates
at a steady rate to avoid a clash of flavours.
LOVED BECAUSE: YOU CAN PROPERLY STUFF YOUR FACE AND EAT AS MUCH CHINESE FOOD AS YOU
This modern-looking restaurant on Regent Road serves freshly cooked Chinese food
in a clean, nicely furnished interior. It has an extensive menu, including excellent
crispy duck with pancakes as a starter, and some mouth-watering mains such as the
House Special Chow Mein, sweet and sour chicken, King prawn foo yung and roast pork
Portions here are generous and the service is always polite and efficient; and on
a busy night, the Mandarin House has a really nice, relaxed atmosphere. Prices are
very reasonable, too, especially the set menu deals for couples. And vegetarians
are very well-catered for, too, with a special set dinner available for £13.
LOVED BECAUSE: AUTHENTIC CHINESE COOKING - SMART INTERIOR - GREAT VALUE SET MENU
4 Hall Quay, Great Yarmouth, NR30 1HX
TOP TIP: If you like the thought of mixing up a bit of Japanese, Chinese and Thai
cuisine, then choose the cooked to order ‘all you can eat’ buffet option.
If you find it hard to choose off a menu, then what better way of avoiding that than
an ‘All You Can Eat’ Chinese buffet? And that’s exactly what you’ll get at Energy,
which is in a central seafront location, and which serves up all the classic Chinese
dishes in a help yourself format.
Lunchtimes are a real bargain at Energy, with adults paying just £8.50 and kids £4.50,
while in the evening the prices are a very reasonable £12.50 for adults and £6.50
for kids. This isn’t fine dining, of course - it’s more about eating a little bit
of everything and having a proper Chinese pig out. But the food is flavoursome and
there’s loads and loads of choice - everything from noodles and rice dishes to sweet
and sour pork and satay chicken.
78 Regent Road, Great Yarmouth, NR30 2AJ
TOP TIP: The set menu deals for couples offer a great way of sampling a number of
different dishes for a low fixed price. Portions are plenty large enough for two
and made for sharing - and what could be more romantic than sharing delicious food
with the one you love?
Located down by the river, Red Leaf is a smart, modern restaurant offering a mix
of Oriental dishes. Some have their roots in Japanese cuisine, while others are more
Thai or Chinese influenced, but all make use of lovely fresh ingredients, are attractively
presented and have clear, clean flavours.
A full a la carte menu is available, as is a buffet style ‘all you can eat’ deal
- but you won’t see the food here piled up in troughs for self-service. Because even
the buffet food is cooked fresh to order and served with the same care and attention
as the a la carte meals. There’s an excellent value lunchtime offer, too.
This popular seafront Indian restaurant serves a wide selection of classic Indian
dishes in a bright, modern environment. So, don’t be put off by the faded signage,
as the food at its best is a proper treat. There’s an extensive menu of curry house
favourites, but I’d recommend heading for the House Special dishes, particularly
the naga if you can handle the heat, or Tiger by the Sea if you’re a fan of prawns
cooked in the shell. Service is very friendly and takeaways are available, too, so
whether dining in or dining at home, you should be in for a pleasant meal. Booking
is advised at the weekends - just call them on 01493 330777 - and Wednesday nights
get very busy in summer, as it’s a great place to watch the fireworks from.
When you’ve had enough fish and chips to last you a lifetime, then what better than
something hot and spicy to revive, excite and titillate your taste buds? And whether
you’re in the mood for a Chicken Tikka Massala, a Lamb Rogan Josh, some crispy duck
or a Chicken Chow Mein, then Great Yarmouth is blessed with a great selection of
independent Indian and Chinese restaurants offering excellent food and friendly service
at value-for-money prices.

Chinese takeaways, most of which offer free delivery throughout the Great Yarmouth
area, including to nearby holiday camps and caravan parks.
5 Marine Parade, Great Yarmouth, NR30 3AH
TOP TIP: Thursday night is Banquet Night, which means you get a starter, main, vegetable
side dish and rice or a nan for just £9.95. And don’t worry if you’ve got a fussy
eater in your party who hates spicy food, as English options are also available.
LOVED BECAUSE: AUTHENTIC CUISINE - MODERN DECOR - TAKEAWAYS & DELIVERIES - BANQUET
25a King Street, Great Yarmouth, NR30 2NZ
TOP TIP: The set meal options at Bombay Nite are excellent value. Both the Set Meal
for 2 and the Shabnaz Tandoori Offer for 2 give couples the chance to sample a varied
selection of dishes for under £20 per head.
Great Yarmouth’s first ever Indian restaurant is located in King Street - just a
short walk from the market area - and has been serving up good quality bhunas, danzaks
and chicken tikka massalas to the locals for over 40 years. The bright, spacious
interior can cater for large parties; and while the food maybe lacks its own signature
style, it’s a reliable choice for one of those nights when only something hot and
spicy will do.
Sunday night is Banquet Nite, so if you like a good value-for-money deal, then how
does a starter, main course, side dish and rice or nan for £9.95 per person sound?
Takeaway and home delivery options are available, too.
LOVED BECAUSE: GREAT YARMOUTH’S ORIGINAL INDIAN - TOWN CENTRE LOCATION - VERY TASTY
This modern, fully licensed Indian restaurant is located on a corner of Regent Road
- halfway between the seafront and town centre. It serves all the classic Indian
dishes, including korma, pathia, dansak, jalfrezi, tandoori chicken and vindaloo,
but this is a place to try something just a little bit different. The house specials
include a unique and delicious fish dish called Lahori Jall Machli and an excellent
salmon dish called Machli Tarana, while vegetarians will appreciate the quality of
the vegetable sides like Makhon Bahari and Matka Harilaii. These are available as
main courses and have enough spicing and interest to work as a main.
All-in-all, a great Indian restaurant in a central location.
79 Regent Road, Great Yarmouth, NR30 2AL
TOP TIP: The house speciality dish, lahori jall machli, features moist slices of
white fish cooked with tomatoes, dry chilies and spring onions. Rich in flavour and
aroma, it is unique to the restaurant and a great option for those wanting to try
LOVED BECAUSE: MODERN INTERIOR - AUTHENTIC INDIAN CUISINE - GOOD SERVICE - FAB LOCATION
Authentic Thai cuisine
Authentic green & red curries, Pad Thai noodles and so much more in a lovely modern
restaurant with friendly service.

A taste of Vietnam
Never had Vietnamese food? Well, it’s a little bit Chinese, a little bit Indian,
a little bit Japanese and bursting with flavour.
32 St. Peter’s Road, NR30 3AU
New town centre restaurant offering a mix of Chinese, Thai and other Oriental dishes
overlooking the market place.
